Since 1951 USEFP has fostered mutual understanding between the people of Pakistan and the United States through educational and cultural exchange. Currently the Pakistan program is the largest in the world sending almost 250 grantees to the U.S. each year. A merit-based process is used to recruit and select grantees. People selected for our programs not only represent Pakistan's academic excellence, they also represent its diversity and serve as ambassadors for Pakistan itself. When grantees return to Pakistan, they should be able to share what they have learned and experienced with friends and family. USEFP receives support and counsel from both the Pakistan and U.S. governments, but it is not an agency of either.

It is important to emphasize that while a Fulbright or Humphrey experience will be an important academic opportunity for each individual selected, it is also an investment in Pakistan’s future and an opportunity for individuals to represent Pakistan in the U.S. On their return grantees are expected to use their knowledge to serve Pakistan.

The USEFP Advising and Outreach Office in Islamabad assists students interested in applying to study in the United States. Advisers are available to help with selecting colleges or universities that best match applicants’ interests and abilities as well as with the application process itself. USEFP maintains a library of useful resources and catalogues for student use. Advisors can be contacted at advising@usefpakistan.org. Advising centres have been established in Lahore, Faisalabad University of Agriculture and Bahauddin Zakria University, Multan.
