About the Quilt

The idea of making the ISEO 10th Anniversary Memorial Quilt is to commemorate the relationships fostered over the last 10 years of the ISEO in a display for all to see. What makes this quilt a truly unique project is that it celebrates and highlights the identity of each school as being integral to the ISEO forum. Like an orchestra, this quilt endeavors to be the perfect realisation of its parts. Our intention is to create a visual symphony out of the various textures, colours and ideas presented. With this initiative, we recognize the diversity of the participants and are proud of connecting them together, while still allowing them to retain their individuality and potential for growth.

• Each patch will be displayed online on the website and the final quilt will come together for display at ISEO 2010.
• Each school may create and contribute ONE square patch for the memorial quilt.  For details about decorating your patch, see the DECORATING YOUR PATCH section below.
• A quilt patch will be provided to all participating schools of ISEO 2009.
• Even if your school is not participating in ISEO 2009 but has participated in past ISEOs, you are still welcome to send in a patch for inclusion in the memorial quilt. You are also welcome to contact us at Karachi High School and we will mail a patch to you.

• Mail or deliver your school's completed patch to the ISEO Office no later than 31st March, 2009 so that we can celebrate how much your school's participation has contributed to making the ISEO such a wonderful experience for us all.
• Send your patch to:

• Label the back of the patch with the following information:
• School Name
•  Branch
• Team Code (applicable only to schools participating in ISEO 2009)
• Contributing students names and respective grade levels

Making A Quilt Patch

• Use white muslin or 100% cotton fabric that is completely washable when finished.
• Cut fabric into an 8 x 8-inch square patch.
• Please measure carefully so that your square is the same size as all the patches in the quilt.
• Remember to leave a ½ inch border all around the edge of your patch. This will be used to stitch the patches together.

Decorating your Quilt Patch

• Your quilt square should represent your school's identity. Please refrain from JUST using your school's logo as the only decoration on your square- try and be as creative and innovative as you can. Be sure to include the school name on your quilt square though.
• The following are some helpful hints for making your quilt patch.
• Wash the fabric, and iron it. This allows the fabric to shrink before you use it.
• When cutting the fabric the hardest part of this is keeping the squares square. A little starch makes the fabric stiffer and easier to cut.
• Make sure you keep INSIDE the ½ inch border of the square patch. Anything that is within ½ inch border from any edge of the square will be sewn off when the patches are sewn together.
• When decorating your patch, try to use washable mediums so your creativity gets preserved. Some possibilities are:
• Fabric markers (the ink from any other marker will run and spoil the quilt when it is washed)
• Fabric paint
• Other fabric patches
• Ribbons, lace, cord etc.
• Buttons, beads, sequins etc.
